Female Kingfisher

Hollingworth Lake, Littleborough 2016

Canon 7D Mark11, Sigma 150 - 600mm Sport lens. 1/600 at f6.3.

This was a case of being in the right place at the right time. We only had a short time available after walking the half mile from the car park to the hide. While setting up my camera I was talking to one of the locals who had been in the hide all day without seeing a Kingfisher. He decided to pack up and go home, he had only been gone about ten minutes when Marion, my wife said what is that brightly coloured bird? I was able to get off eight shots before it flew away.  Shortly afterwards the warden came round and said we had to leave he was locking up the hide, we were there for about twenty five minutes.  Talk about luck!
